Second round completed! On our way to the big finale!
The contest goes forward with the 24 semi-finalists making last adjustments on their concepts. Six finalists will come out of this amazing group and will be competing for the first place during Perfect Serve Bar Show in Amsterdam.
Twenty four of the world’s finest bar professionals spent two days in Portugal (January 11th&12th) and in Holland (January 18th & 19th) to attend workshops by Libbey designers, masterclasses by bar professionals and visit the Plants of Libbey EMEA. During this period semifinalists had the unique opportunity to gain hands-on knowledge and take valuable input to refine their first design and have it ready for production.
The two days were full of high moments. On day one the semifinalists had the chance to visit the Plants and workshops by Libbey EMEA Designers, where they collect information about the production techniques, in order to understand if their concept is feasible or how it can be turned into a producible item. At the end of this intense day, everyone had the chance to attend special and inspiring Masterclasses. In Lisbon, the masterclass was presented by Paulo Gomes, co-owner and bartender at Red Frog, nr. 92 on the ranking of the World’s Best Bars, and in Amsterdam by Tess Posthumus and Timo Janse owners of the brand new bar The Flying Dutchmen.
On day two, all semifinalists could present their concepts, sharing the drawing and the story behind it and attend inspiring workshops by members of the Jury:
- Simon Difford founder of the well-known site Diffords’ Guide;
- Sandrae Lawrence editor of the English magazine The Cocktails Lovers;
- Diego Ferrari Italian bartender and founder of the Cocktail Art Facebook page;
- Tara Garnell, Bartender and famous drinks stylist;
- Robert Schinkel, bartender, tea sommelier and winner of the first edition of Glassology by Libbey.
This weekend was the last moment for all semifinalists to upload their adjusted concepts. Next week the Jury will come together to choose the 6 finalists that will be defending their concept at the finals, taking place on May the 28th, during Perfect Serve Bar Show in Amsterdam. One of the six finalists will earn global recognition, as the winning glass design will be taken into production, to be sold all over the world by Libbey.
Good luck to all and we are looking forward for a great finale!
